“BODY LANGUAGE” Listening activity.“Gestures and body language tutorial” by Derek Banas. (source: Youtube) Assignment:
1st time: THINK OF THE TOPIC: The titles are for you to reflect upon every topic, while you listen to the recording. Use them to help you think about every topic.
2nd time: (with the ppt): MIMIC along: While you listen, I ask you please mimic the kind of gesture the speaker is talking about.
TOPICS TO THINK DURING THE LISTENING:
**A person´s eye dilation means that you are stimulated and in a problem solving mode.
**Maximum dialation: you are ready to make a decision, and it is positive.
**Eyebrow raise: it is a sign that a person is not threatening. When the person raises their eyebrow, he/she is probably going to smile.
*Strong eye contact: --- the person is interested in you (dialated eyes).
---the person is challenging you if the eyes are constricted.
***The most threatening look: moving narrowed eyes towards a person with little to no body movement.
The speed of the head movement: will demonstrate how angry they are.
***Eye contact: lyars maintain strong eye contact.
Sideways glance: if the person raises his eyebrows: he likes you. If the person does not: he does not like you.
If a person´s blink rate increases, they are likely lying.
**Eyes darting around: he is boring or nervous.
***When first meeting a person: a) shake hands with strong eye contact.
b) give them at least 3 seconds to look you over uninterrupted.
***To build strong rapport: you should look them in the eye for 60 to 70 % of the time you are together.
***When s.body wants to "construct" something, he/she looks to the right.
If the person tries to remember something, he/she looks to the left.
****Arms crossed means that you are defending yourself and trying to feel more comfortable.
***When shaking hands: if the hand of the other person is "on top", he is trying to dominate you.
***To generate good rapport while shaking hands: equal handshake, in which both people shake in a vertical manor.
